Top tips for recruitment -attitude vs grades

Grades will open doors for you, there’s no doubt about it, but if I had to choose between high grades and a great working attitude, I would choose “attitude” every time.

In choosing team members, for me it is “attitude” that ranks higher than grades. High grades are good obviously, but all too often they inflate our egos.

The ability to pass exams is one thing. The ability to work with others, to work unselfishly and sometimes to share in the less glamorous tasks, well that’s a whole lot more valuable in a working team.

I couldn’t agree more, one thing more I am looking for when recruiting is the culture fit. A high performer in one corporate culture may not be a high performer in another corporate culture.

Changing culture by hiring is a different topic but some interesting issues and risk in that area.
