Is there an upside to disaster?

No.  A catastrophe is a catastrophe… but…

Massive life events, be they personal or corporate, such as a relationship ending or a business failing, do have consequences.

These consequences force change. There is nothing nice about it. But change can bring transformation.

For example, a fatal rail crash brings massive change. After Hatfield, vast swathes of infrastructure were renewed to prevent a recurrence. The extent of these changes would, in my opinion, never have been possible without this impetus.

It’s human nature. The same is true personally. A personal crash is awful, but it makes us change.

Ironically the most successful people are frequently those who have overcome great personal losses.

Some of the best businesses are those who have made and overcome big mistakes.
